The Green Bay Packers have selected offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Day 2 of the 2019 NFL Draft is underway, and the Green Bay Packers have selected offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins out of Mississippi State.

The Packers have upgraded their offense with this pick. They desperately needed to strengthen the offensive line, and they’ve brought in help at guard with Jenkins. He will likely compete for a starting job right away.

Green Bay focused on the defense on the opening night of the draft, first using the 12th-overall pick to select Michigan defensive end Rashan Gary. General manager Brian Gutekunst then addressed arguably the team’s biggest need at safety by selecting Darnell Savage Jr. with the 21st pick after trading up with the Seattle Seahawks.

Davante Adams was the Packers’ last great second-round pick back in 2014, but they haven’t been able to find the same success since. They picked Quinten Rollins in the second round in 2015, traded up for Jason Spriggs in 2016, picked Kevin King and Josh Jones in 2017, and selected Josh Jackson last spring.

Of that group, King is a starter at cornerback when healthy, and Jackson has the potential to become a very good player. But Rollins is no longer on the team, Spriggs hasn’t become the starter at tackle the team hoped, and Jones has yet to make a significant impact in the secondary.

The Packers will hope their Day 2 selections can make an instant impact this season. They are set to pick again later on Friday night in the third round.

What are your thoughts on Green Bay’s second-round selection, and on the entire draft class so far?
