The Green Bay Packers selected TE Jace Sternberger in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Green Bay Packers have made their third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, selecting tight end Jace Sternberger out of Texas A&M.

He joins first-round picks Rashan Gary and Darnell Savage Jr. and second-round selection Elgton Jenkins. The Packers have been focusing on positions of need, first addressing edge rusher and safety, and most recently the offensive line. Now they turn to tight end in the third round.

Tight end was one of the biggest needs for Green Bay entering the draft, and after missing out on T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant in the first round, then passing up on Irv Smith Jr. in the second round, they get their tight end in Sternberger here in the third round.

The Packers will be hoping to find more success in the third round this year than in recent drafts. Here’s the list of the team’s third-round picks since 2014: DT Khyri Thornton (no longer on the team), Ty Montgomery (no longer on the team), Kyler Fackrell (performed well last year as the team’s leader in sacks), Montravius Adams (has one start in two seasons) and Oren Burks (still too early to grade this pick).

Of the group, Fackrell is the only player to make an impact, as he finished 2018 with 10.5 sacks.

After an all-defense Thursday, Green Bay has got better along the offensive line and at tight end on Day 2.

The Packers’ next pick isn’t until the fifth round as they traded away both fourth-rounders to move up in the first.
