NFL Draft 2019: Grades for Packers Day 3 selections
Grading every Day 3 draft pick for the Green Bay Packers.
Just like that, we’ve arrived on the final day of the 2019 NFL Draft. The Green Bay Packers traded away both of their fourth-round picks on Thursday night, but they are still set to pick four times on Saturday prior to any potential trades.
Green Bay won’t pick in the fourth round but owns a fifth-round pick, two in the sixth round and one in the seventh round. We’ll soon find out whether they plan to stay at those positions or make a trade at some point on the final day.
So far, the Packers have drafted four players, two on defense and two on offense. Edge rusher Rashan Gary and safety Darnell Savage Jr. could both become starters early on defense, and guard Elgton Jenkins and tight end Jace Sternberger could also be long-term starters on offense.
Many of Green Bay’s best players were Day 3 picks. Left tackle David Bakhtiari is a three-time All-Pro at a premier position, but he wasn’t selected until the fourth round. Pro Bowl defensive end Mike Daniels was also selected in the fourth round. Starting center Corey Linsley was a fifth-round pick.
General manager Brian Gutekunst will be hoping to hit on a couple of Day 3 picks on Saturday afternoon.
Be sure to keep checking back to this page as we provide up-to-date reaction and grades for each of the Packers’ picks on the final day of the draft. Immediately following each pick, we’ll continue to update the grades.
Another selection from Texas A&M for the Packers. Last season, depth was an issue along the defensive line, so this pick makes a lot of sense. Keke had 7.5 sacks, 11 tackles-for-loss and forced a fumble for Texas A&M in 2018. Smart pick for the Packers. Grade: B
The Packers continue to focus on the secondary, and Brian Gutekunst has rebuilt the defensive backfield in the past two drafts. Green Bay needed to add some more depth following Bashaud Breeland’s departure, and selecting Ka’Dar Hollman here makes sense. Grade: B+
As expected, the Packers added another running back in the draft. Matt LaFleur will be committed to the ground game in 2019, so it was key to ensure there is enough depth at the position behind Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams. Dexter Williams rushed for 995 yards and 12 touchdowns last season for Notre Dame. Lance Zierlein of NFL.com projected Williams to go in the fourth round, so this could be great value for the Packers. Grade: A
The Packers finish the draft by addressing another position of need at inside linebacker. It’s fair to say Gutekunst has drafted for need in this draft. Grade: C
