The Packers made one notable move at tight end in the draft, selecting Jace Sternberger in the third round. Best known for his work as a receiver, Sternberger gives the Packers a vertical threat in the passing game. He finished 2018 with 832 yards and 10 touchdowns at Texas A&M.

His role will likely be limited early on, however, as the team decided to keep Jimmy Graham for 2019, even after an underwhelming debut season in Green Bay. The hope is that the change in scheme will bring the best out of Graham, who only two years ago put up 10 touchdowns with the Seattle Seahawks.

Marcedes Lewis didn’t see the field too often last season, surprisingly only playing on 17.7 percent of the offensive snaps, according to Pro Football Reference. He’s by far the best blocking tight end on the roster, so the fact he was re-signed suggests he’ll have a bigger role in 2019.

Robert Tonyan also makes the roster, and this is based on potential. Tonyan only had four catches last season, but who can forget his very first? A 57-yard touchdown against the Seahawks.

If Graham can bounce back this year and Sternberger can contribute as a rookie, the Packers should be improved at tight end.
