Reviewing the Green Bay Packers defensive line following the 2019 NFL Draft.

This is an important season for the Green Bay Packers defense. The team has once again invested a lot of money and high draft picks on defense. With so much talent, the Packers will be expected to take a step forward defensively under Mike Pettine this year.

One area that remains mostly the same is the defensive line. Far and away the Packers’ biggest strength on defense over the past couple of years, this group should once again be one of the best in the NFL in 2019.

Let’s take a look at who is on the roster after the draft.

Currently on the roster

Kenny Clark, Mike Daniels, Dean Lowry, Montravius Adams, Kingsley Keke, Tyler Lancaster, James Looney, Deon Simon, Fadol Brown, Eric Cotton

Offseason moves

So far this offseason, the Packers haven’t re-signed Muhammad Wilkerson, but it’s still a possibility they bring him back. They did add depth to the defensive line by selecting Kingsley Keke in the fifth round of the draft.

Improved from 2018?

There hasn’t been much change along the defensive line, but if the Packers can get better luck with injuries, we’ll see an improvement. If Keke can contribute as a rookie, the Packers will have more depth along the defensive line, which was an issue last season.

Key player

Kenny Clark.

Clark is easily living up to his first-round selection as he continues to improve as one of the most talented young defensive tackles in the NFL, and the scary part is that he is still only 23 years old, the same age as many rookies around the league. With 10.5 sacks over the past two seasons, expect another big year from Clark as he leads the way on the Packers defensive line.

Position outlook

The Green Bay Packers could have one of the most improved defenses in 2019. A large part of the team’s success will come from the defensive line, led by star defensive tackles Clark and Mike Daniels. Importantly, the Packers have depth along the line with Dean Lowry, Montravius Adams and rookie Kingsley Keke.

With additions made at edge rusher and to the secondary, the pressure shouldn’t be all on the defensive line to carry the defense any more.

If this group can stay healthy, the Packers will have one of the strongest defensive lines in football.
