Three reasons to be excited about the Packers in 2019
3. Potential second-year stars
Last year’s draft class could have a huge impact in 2019 for the Packers. The focus has been on the offseason additions made this spring, and for good reason, but the Packers also have a few potential second-year stars on the roster.
Jaire Alexander made the PFWA All-Rookie Team last year. If he can make the next step in his development, he’ll continue to lead the way for the Packers’ talented young secondary. He dominated against the LA Rams last season, breaking up five passes. If that’s a sign of what’s to come, the Packers have found a superstar.
Wide receivers Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown both have a huge opportunity in front of them. With the Packers opting not to add to the wide receiver room via free agency or the draft, MVS and EQ will remain in the top-four on the depth chart, and they both have the potential to take on important roles in Matt LaFleur’s offense.
Oren Burks and J’Mon Moore are also two players to watch. And don’t forget about Tony Brown, who impressed at cornerback after going undrafted a year ago.
Many players make a big jump in production from year one to two, and the Packers’ 2018 draft class has a ton of potential.
