15. Carson Wentz (Philadelphia Eagles): Wentz has showcased MVP level play at times during his career, but his abundant injury history makes me skeptical to put him in that class of quarterback.

Although, if he manages to play a full season, I would not be surprised if he warrants at least some MVP discussion. Just look at what he did before his season-ending injury in 2017 for further proof.

14. Cam Newton (Carolina Panthers): Newton is in a similar situation as Carson Wentz with the lingering concerns about his shoulder, although Newton has actually won an MVP award. If the shoulder issue is being overdramatized, there is a chance that Newton leads Carolina back to another NFC South crown.

13. Baker Mayfield (Cleveland Browns): Mayfield nearly led arguably the worst franchise of the 21st century (in any major sport) to the playoffs last season and probably would have got the Browns to that spot if he had been named the starter and/or Hue Jackson had been fired earlier.

The talent and production that Mayfield demonstrated at both Oklahoma and in his rookie NFL season lead me to believe that he will satisfy the league’s once quarterback-hungriest team for the next decade.

12. Jared Goff (Los Angeles Rams): One could talk me into moving Goff either a few spots higher or a few spots lower on this list, but he has showed off enough elite potential early on to make me feel a spot at 12 is worthy for the young quarterback.

Still, it is somewhat difficult to tell how much of Goff’s success is due to Sean McVay, the incredible crop of talent surrounding him, Goff’s own abilities, or a combination of these three factors.

11. Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons): I have never bought into Ryan as a top-five guy like some have, but it is still worth appreciating the ability that Ryan has long shown in his NFL career. The Falcons are one of my bounce-back picks this season and that will largely hinge on Ryan’s play.
