Packers: Three rookies who could start in Week 1 vs. Bears
Elgton Jenkins, G
Who will be the two starters at guard for the Packers in 2019? That’s one of the biggest questions on offense ahead of training camp. Guard was a position of need for the Packers when the offseason began, and they brought in two versatile offensive linemen in the draft and free agency: Elgton Jenkins in the second round of the draft, and Billy Turner via free agency.
Turner, who can play at tackle and guard, is the most likely choice to earn a starting position. With David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga at the two tackle positions, Turner would be a great choice for guard.
But Jenkins, too, will have a great opportunity to win a starting job at one of the two guard positions.
The Packers now have competition at guard — Jenkins, Turner, Lane Taylor, Cole Madison, Justin McCray and Lucas Patrick will all have an opportunity at training camp.
But Jenkins, who the Packers used a second-round pick to draft this April, would be my choice to start at one of the guard positions along with Turner.
Brian Gutekunst has brought in talent at many positions of need this offseason, and the two big additions to the offensive line could be the starters at guard in the season opener.
