1. Will Jones have a featured role in Matt LaFleur’s offense?

How will Jones be featured in Matt LaFleur’s offense compared to how he was used by Mike McCarthy last season? McCarthy opted for a running back by committee, with Jones sharing offensive snaps with Jamaal Williams, and also Ty Montgomery early in the season. This led to some frustration among the fanbase as Williams made a slow start to the season, while Jones averaged no worse than 5.13 yards per carry in each of his first seven games of the year.

Eventually, Jones’ carries did increase. He had three games with at least 15 carries, and all three were in Week 7 or later. But he still wasn’t used nearly enough.

Will that change in LaFleur’s offense? How does the Packers’ new head coach plan to use his top three running backs? Jones and Williams will likely begin the season as the top two on the depth chart, but rookie Dexter Williams will also compete for offensive snaps this year.

You only have to watch Jones in one game last season to see how he impacts the game, and how efficient he is as a runner. It’s now up to LaFleur to put Jones in the best position to succeed, and that could lead to more carries in 2019.
