Following minicamp, the Green Bay Packers are at No. 11 in the latest NFL Spin Zone power rankings.

Training camp is only just over a month away, and NFL Spin Zone has released its latest power rankings ahead of the new season.

After a good offseason, Randy Gurzi of NFL Spin Zone is expecting a bounce-back season from the Green Bay Packers, as he has them at No. 11 in the NFL power rankings. Interestingly, Gurzi has the Packers ranked first among all NFC North teams, two positions higher than the defending-champion Chicago Bears.

I think it’s a good call.

Many power rankings will have Green Bay much lower based on the past two seasons, but after the team’s offseason work, it’s hard not to view the Packers as serious playoff contenders, and possibly even the number one team in the division.

Much will, of course, depend on how quickly the team can adjust to a new head coach and a new offense. But the offense shouldn’t need to carry this team to the playoffs any more. Mike Pettine is entering Year 2 as defensive coordinator. There should be improvements from the players on the roster a year ago, and they’ll now be helped by some big offseason additions.

If all goes well, the Packers could have a top-10 offense under new head coach Matt LaFleur, and a top-10 defense with Pettine. If that’s the case, the Packers will be considered Super Bowl contenders. And with a two-time MVP leading the way, they’d have as good a chance as any other team in the postseason.

That’s all a long way off right now, though. This team hasn’t even taken a regular season snap with LaFleur as head coach.

But it’s hard to ignore the talent on the roster, and the potential this team has in 2019. For that reason, No. 11 in the power rankings seems about right. The Packers are without a doubt one of the teams to watch in 2019.
