Packers: Power ranking each position group ahead of training camp 2019
7. Cornerback
The situation at cornerback isn’t too dissimilar to wide receiver. At corner, Green Bay is led by a rising star in Jaire Alexander, but if there’s a concern, it’s with the depth at the position.
Kevin King is a very talented player, and he’s proven that when he’s on the field. King has defended seven passes and made one interception over the past two seasons, but he’s also only played 15 games (11 starts) due to injury. This is an important season for King, who can be an every-week starter if he can stay healthy.
Green Bay has lots of potential at corner with second-year Josh Jackson and Tony Brown, as well as rookie Ka’Dar Hollman. But the Packers need Jackson to become more consistent in year two.
The Packers do have much-needed experience with Tramon Williams, who put together a solid season in 2018, and his ability to play at either cornerback or safety gives the secondary depth at key positions.
Again, Gutekunst showed confidence in the position by letting Bashaud Breeland walk in free agency.
Can Alexander take the next step to becoming one of the best corners in the NFL? Can King stay healthy? Can Jackson play well enough to win a starting job?
