Five Packers make CBS Sports Top 100 players rankings

The Green Bay Packers have star players at key positions.

The Green Bay Packers have an all-world quarterback, an All-Pro left tackle, a superstar wide receiver and two elite defensive tackles. Few teams can say the same.

Pete Prisco of CBS Sports has put together his rankings for the top 100 players in the NFL ahead of the new season, and five Packers make the rankings.

Aaron Rodgers is the highest Packer on the list, coming in at No. 3 overall behind Aaron Donald and Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes might be the current league MVP, but is it still a little early to put him ahead of Rodgers?

David Bakhtiari is the highest-ranked tackle at No. 38 overall. Davante Adams comes in at No. 57, ninth among wide receivers. Defensive tackles Kenny Clark and Mike Daniels are also in the top 100, with Clark at No. 60 and Daniels at No. 87.

It’s hard to argue with the rankings all that much. While it’s possible edge rushers Preston and Za’Darius Smith, and safety Adrian Amos could be close to the top 100, it’s also understandable that they aren’t featured. The same could be said about Aaron Jones and Jaire Alexander. They could all make the top 100 in the near future, but there are so many talented players in the NFL. Not everyone can make it.

And you could certainly argue that for most of those players, it’s now about turning their potential into a great season.

But what Prisco’s rankings does highlight is that the Packers have elite players at key positions. How many teams have a future Hall-of-Fame quarterback, the best tackle in football and a top-10 wide receiver? The answer is one — the Packers.

Getting interior pressure is so important in Mike Pettine’s defense, and the Packers have two of the best in the game with Clark and Daniels.

Five players don’t win a championship, and the Packers need their new additions and draft picks to contribute. But they have a strong foundation with multiple players who are among the best at their positions.
