While you’re looking ahead to the future in your dynasty fantasy football drafts, a player to consider is Green Bay Packers rookie tight end Jace Sternberger.

Finding a reliable, every-week starter at tight end has proved to be challenging in recent years unless you have Travis Kelce, Zach Ertz or George Kittle on your team. In dynasty leagues, there’s always a focus on the future and finding players who can help your team beyond this season.

Jace Sternberger is a player who might not have much fantasy value in his rookie year, but that could change as soon as the 2020 season.

The Packers‘ tight end room is currently crowded and it’s hard to predict who will play the majority of the snaps outside of starter Jimmy Graham. But Marcedes Lewis‘ contract is up at the end of the season, and it’s no guarantee that Graham will be back in 2020 either.

Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst used a third-round pick on Sternberger for a reason. He has a great opportunity to be the future starter at tight end in Green Bay, and potentially for many years. And his talent as a pass catcher should make him a great option in fantasy football. Sternberger caught 10 touchdown passes last season, and like Graham, his role in Matt LaFleur’s offense could be primarily as a receiver.

In rookie drafts, Noah Fant, T.J. Hockenson and Irv Smith Jr. will likely be higher draft picks. All three are ranked ahead of Sternberger in Fantasy Pros’ 2019 rookie rankings, but Sternberger could become a great option at TE in fantasy too.

Fant is an excellent pass catcher and he could become a go-to target for Joe Flacco. But Hockenson’s blocking ability could limit his upside as a receiver. Sternberger also gets to play in a high-scoring offense, which will increase his scoring opportunities.

Sternberger might have a quiet rookie season for fantasy football, but he’s a player worth adding on dynasty rosters.
