1. Darnell Savage, Safety

At number one is the player the Packers selected with their second pick in the opening round of April’s draft, safety Darnell Savage Jr. Why Savage is ahead of Rashan Gary is because he should be a starter in year one, so at training camp we’ll get to see how Savage lines up and plays as a starter against the Packers’ number one offense.

Savage has already impressed his teammates this offseason, including wide receiver Davante Adams:

It’s early days and there’s a long way to go, but the early signs are good. Could this be the beginning of an excellent first season that leads to the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award? It wouldn’t be a surprise.

Savage can be a star in a new-look Green Bay Packers secondary, and he’s going to be a fun player to watch at training camp. How will Savage and new signing Adrian Amos complement each other at safety? Will Savage show off his ball-hawk ability with multiple interceptions?

Both first-round picks, Gary and Savage, will be players to watch at training camp to see how they fit into Pettine’s plans on defense this season.
