Micah Hyde

The Packers lost another key part of the secondary in 2017 when Micah Hyde signed with the Buffalo Bills. It was clear at the beginning of that offseason how important it was to bring him back, and it became even more of a head-scratcher when it turned out the Packers didn’t even offer Hyde a new deal.

Well, Hyde certainly made them regret that decision. In his first season with the Bills, Hyde had 13 pass defenses and five interceptions, earning his first Pro Bowl selection while also being named an All-Pro. Green Bay’s defense struggled, however, finishing 23rd against the pass in 2017.

Hyde plays at safety in Buffalo’s defense, but he has the versatility to also play at cornerback, which makes him such a valuable player for any team.

Even after adding Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage Jr. this offseason, Hyde would still be a key player in Mike Pettine’s defense. He’d offer the versatility Tramon Williams currently brings to the team. Due to that, Pettine would have more flexibility to mix things up and confuse opposing offenses.

The Packers’ secondary has improved and could be very good in 2019, but had they kept either Hyde or Hayward, it’d be one of the best in the NFL.
