Running backs (5)

Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Dexter Williams, Corey Grant, Danny Vitale

Oh yes. The Packers are going to keep five running backs this year. Well, Danny Vitale is a fullback.

Aaron Jones needs no introduction. He’s the featured back in this offense, and as long as he’s healthy, Jones is going to continue to make big plays.

The Packers plan to run the ball, and the running backs will also feature more in the passing game. For those reasons, they need depth at the position. That’s why it’s no surprise the Packers continue to add talent to the roster. They’ve signed Corey Grant and Darrin Hall in the past week.

Jamaal Williams is dealing with a hamstring injury, but he is expected to be the number two on the depth chart. But rookie Dexter Williams will also be part of the running back rotation this year.

Grant is another player to watch. He has played under offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett in the past. And according to Wes Hodkiewicz of Packers.com, he’s also spent some time as a returner in practice.

Keeping four running backs isn’t unrealistic as the Packers will need plenty of depth, and all four can make an impact.

And it sure looks like the Packers will keeping a fullback this season. Here’s an interesting note from Rob Demovsky of ESPN last week:

"“The fullback is here to stay. New coach Matt LaFleur dedicated plenty of snaps with two backs (Aaron Jones behind Danny Vitale to start).”"

One name that keeps coming up in reports from camp is Danny Vitale. He has a great opportunity to make the roster and play a lot of snaps on offense this season.
