Who are the top five players to watch for the Green Bay Packers in the preseason opener against the Houston Texans?

Half a week away from the Green Bay Packers‘ preseason opener, let’s take a look at the players to watch when they take the field against the Houston Texans.

Oftentimes, preseason games can be described as boring. Uneventful. And often not even an interesting preview of the regular season. But there is a greater reason to watch the Packers in their four exhibition games this season.

With so much change this offseason, the Packers are going to need plenty of reps in the preseason. How new head coach Matt LaFleur manages that, balancing the risk of injury versus the reward of preparing for the real games, will be key. But it won’t be a surprise if Aaron Rodgers and the starters on offense feature more often than in recent years.

This week, the Texans will arrive in Green Bay to take part in two joint practices, with the two teams meeting in their opening preseason contest at Lambeau Field on Thursday evening. While LaFleur and defensive coordinator Mike Pettine will be saving a lot of their 2019 scheme for the regular season, we’ll get to see how the players line up in game action for the first time.
