SOUTH BEND, IN – NOVEMBER 10: Dexter Williams #2 of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish breaks a tackle on his way to a 58-yard touchdown run against the Florida State Seminoles in the second quarter of the game at Notre Dame Stadium on November 10, 2018 in South Bend, Indiana. 4. Dexter Williams

Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are both dealing with injuries, which could lead to a golden opportunity in the preseason for rookie Dexter Williams.

Jones and Williams have both been out of practice due to hamstring injuries. While it’s unclear whether either player will be ready to go on Thursday night, there has to be a good chance both will miss the game, simply due to the nature of hamstring injuries and the importance of getting fully healthy.

But even after the Packers used a late-round draft pick to add Williams to the running back depth chart, he could be overtaken by new signing Corey Grant if he doesn’t play well. It’s important Williams makes the most of his opportunities, gets important preseason snaps, and shows what he can do.

Williams has also had an opportunity at practice to work in the first-team offense with Jones and Jamaal Williams out.

Williams will play a part in the Packers offense this season, but if he can put in a standout performance against the Texans, he’ll begin to make a strong case for possibly earning snaps ahead of Jamaal Williams in the regular season.

I’m excited to see Williams in the starting offense, which could happen on Thursday night.
