3. Jake Kumerow

It was around this time last year that Jake Kumerow was generating a lot of buzz at training camp. He then took that form into the preseason and forced the Packers to make room for him on the 53-man roster. Could Kumerow have played a significant role in the offense last year, had it not been for an injury in August that cost him half the season? Quite possibly.

And in a new offense, Kumerow is again playing at a high level at practice. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported on Friday night that it looks like Kumerow is currently the fourth receiver behind Davante Adams, Geronimo Allison and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Demovsky noted that Kumerow impressed at Family Night, and even made 37-yard catch against Jaire Alexander. Talk about a big statement.

At this stage, there doesn’t seem to be any doubt that Kumerow will be part of the roster this season. But what an opportunity he now has.

Kumerow is going to be a fun player to watch throughout preseason, and if he continues to play at a high level in Thursday night’s game, his stock will only continue to rise. With another strong performance, he’ll move one step closer to securing the fourth receiver spot.
