NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – APRIL 25: A video board displays an image of Darnell Savage Jr. after he was chosen #21 overall by the Green Bay Packers during the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft on April 25, 2019 in Nashville, Tennessee. (Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images) /

1. Darnell Savage Jr.

After missing the start of training camp due to having a wisdom tooth removed, Darnell Savage Jr. has been eased back into practice. But by the time the preseason opener arrives in a few days, could he be ready for a bigger role on the field?

Even if Savage only plays a limited role against the Texans, he’ll be a player to watch closely. Even though much of Mike Pettine’s scheme won’t be on show in the preseason, we’ll still be able to get an idea of the kind of impact Savage can make for the Packers this year. Will he make any big plays? How is he reading and reacting to the game?

Packers fans have high hopes for Savage in his rookie season, and Green Bay needs him to play well after the struggles the team had at safety in 2018.

Matt LaFleur may continue to give Savage a limited role at practice as he works his way back in after missing most of the first week of camp, but he’s going to be a must-see player in each of Green Bay’s four exhibition games.
