Five Green Bay Packers to watch throughout the preseason.

The Packers kick off their preseason against the visiting Houston Texans.

After two days of contentious practices, here are the five players fans should keep their eyes on:

1. Raven Greene

The Packers went through another complete renovation of their safety position this year. After throwing a four-year contract at Adrian Amos and trading up through a third of the first round of the draft to secure Darnell Savage, there is a new excitement around the safety position that hasn’t been there in years. But behind the two starters, there is little for the Packers to live on.

Raven Greene signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2018, and had several interesting moments with the team before being placed on injured reserve in December. It was an odyssey at the safety position for the Packers throughout last season, which led to six different players seeing time as the starter at the last line of defense.

The Packers shouldn’t be too concerned about injuries to the current starters, given the durability of Amos. Throughout his four-year career, Amos has missed just four games, making him one of the most durable players at the position across the league.

But, should Savage miss time, or Amos get contaminated with the annual injury bug that has infected so many Packers over the years, depth will be key to the defense. Josh Jones has been yet another bust in the secondary that needs to be replaced. Greene isn’t the biggest guy in the world, but has just enough ability to be considered for a roster spot.
