Packers 53-man roster predictions following preseason opener
Offensive line (10)
David Bakhtiari, Lane Taylor, Corey Linsley, Billy Turner, Bryan Bulaga, Elgton Jenkins, Alex Light, Cole Madison, Justin McCray, Lucas Patrick
We were given a big clue as to how the starting offensive line will look in Week 1 during the preseason opener. Four of the five starters — David Bakhtiari, Corey Linsley, Billy Turner, and Bryan Bulaga were all rested — suggesting they have all secured starting positions.
That only leaves one position available, which is at left guard. Lane Taylor is the current starter on the Packers’ unofficial depth chart, but Matt LaFleur said there is competition for the starting job.
“That’s a competition,” LaFleur said following Thursday’s game. “As long as that’s going to be competition, we want to see those guys go at it. I thought Lane did an excellent job and handled himself the right way. It’s always going to be about competition.”
The Packers released Jason Spriggs earlier this week, which could create opportunities for Alex Light, Lucas Patrick or Justin McCray to earn one of the top backup jobs.
For now, it looks like Taylor will start the season at left guard, but that’s far from a guarantee based on LaFleur’s postgame press conference. Rookie Elgton Jenkins is a player to watch.
The Packers have good depth at most positions along the offensive line, something they’ve addressed in the offseason.
