Packers: Top three questions in second preseason game vs. Ravens
3. Which wide receivers will step up?
Wide receiver remains an interesting positional battle and one that is still very much up in the air. Outside of the obvious names — Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Geronimo Allison — there are a few positions available on the 53-man roster.
Jake Kumerow has impressed this summer and must be close to securing a spot on the final 53, if he hasn’t already. Second-year receiver Equanimeous St. Brown will also likely make the roster.
After that, your guess is as good as mine.
Darrius Shepherd and Allen Lazard are two names to watch this week. Shepherd has impressed this summer and had a 14-yard touchdown against the Texans. Lazard led the team in receiving with a 27-yard score. Shepherd has earned praise from both Matt LaFleur and Aaron Rodgers. He has a real opportunity to make the roster.
Again, it comes down to stacking success.
If Shepherd makes the roster, it could mean Trevor Davis misses out. Davis has been out with an injury and, according to Wes Hodkiewicz of Packers.com, Shepherd was fielding punts at practice on Sunday.
J’Mon Moore shouldn’t be counted out, either, despite a frustrating game in the preseason opener. Moore dropped too many passes but did finish with a one-yard touchdown catch. If he can put in a good performance without any drops, he’ll still be very much in contention for a roster spot.
While there are still a few weeks to go in preseason, this is an important game for the young receivers on the roster.
