Packers running backs

The end numbers of this game (94 yards on 29 carries) do not tell the full story for the Packers running backs. There were three plays of 10-plus yards called back due to holding. Dexter Williams, Tra Carson and Keith Ford were all victims of the Packers penalties.

Sitting Aaron Jones for this game was a good idea. He is going to be critical to the Packers offense and getting him hurt in this game would have been bad for business.

In his absence, the run game has been lacking through the first two games of the preseason. There were some bright spots in each of the first two games, but it didn’t resemble anything close to what the Packers will want to become Week 1.

Dexter Williams looks like the most explosive player of the running backs behind Jones and Jamaal Williams. He is still a work in progress but could be a good third option.

What looks even better for the Pack is that none of the starters played in this game. In fact, we will go the whole preseason without seeing the first team take one snap together in a game situation. But the fact the run game looked better is an encouraging sign.
