With the Green Bay Packers’ final preseason game completed, it’s time to finalize the 53-man roster that will be carried into the regular season.

The Green Bay Packers finished their preseason on Thursday night after playing the Chiefs at Lambeau Field. All of the starters and even some backups didn’t suit up to ensure they would be healthy for the upcoming week one game in Chicago next Thursday.

It may not have been the most interesting game to watch, but it was important for a lot of fringe players looking to make the team. Even the long-shots have something to play for, possibly a spot on the practice squad or maybe catch the eye of a scout for another team in the league.

Here are my predictions for who the Packers will keep on their 53-man roster following the final preseason game on Thursday night.

Quarterbacks (2)

Aaron Rodgers, DeShone Kizer

I honestly feel like the backup spot could go either way. I wanted to put Tim Boyle in the backup spot, but I just feel Kizer has more upside and potential than Boyle. I just get the feeling that Boyle is the preseason wonder boy, but once you get into meaningful football, he will look completely lost.

Kizer has been there before, although not necessarily successful, he has that experience that Boyle doesn’t have. The Packers have also given up assets to attain Kizer, so there is some extra reason to keep him around. I think if Kizer got cut, he’d be picked up by another club, whereas if Boyle gets cut, the Packers may be able to sneak them onto their practice squad.

Regardless of who “wins” the backup spot on this team, it won’t be good if they have to play. If Rodgers goes down long-term, this team is in trouble. But if Rodgers has to miss four games, I think Kizer would give the Packers a better chance to win a couple of those games to keep the Packers in contention.
