On Sunday, the Green Bay Packers announced they had signed 10 players to the practice squad. The good news is that Allen Lazard is one of them.

Lazard was one of the Packers‘ standout performers during the preseason, and he played well enough to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. But the Packers went with Trevor Davis and Darrius Shepherd, keeping six receivers in total on the roster.

Lazard led the Packers in receiving yards during the preseason, catching six passes for 114 yards and a touchdown in three games, and he also earned praise from Aaron Rodgers.

There’s still a chance Lazard will get his opportunity on the 53-man roster this year. One injury could give him the chance to play.

Lazard wasn’t the only receiver signed to the practice squad. The Packers also brought back Malik Taylor, as well as quarterback Manny Wilkins, running back Tra Carson, tight end Evan Baylis and tackle Yosh Nijman on offense.

With injuries at linebacker, the Packers could end up needing Brady Sheldon or Randy Ramsey this year. Both players made the practice squad. The other two defensive players to sign to the practice squad were defensive tackle James Looney and cornerback Kabion Ento.

Time will tell whether general manager Brian Gutekunst looks to add to the roster before the season opener. One player who won’t be on the roster is quarterback DeShone Kizer. Kizer was claimed on waivers by the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Tim Boyle is currently the backup quarterback. But Adam Caplan of SiriusXM reported that at least six teams have shown interest in signing Brian Hoyer, who was released by the New England Patriots this weekend. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Packers were one of those teams.

Green Bay’s practice squad is now set, and bringing back Lazard is great news.
