Packers: Waiver claims and free agents they should consider

Waiver claims
Noah Spence, OLB: Somewhat of a surprise was the waiving of Noah Spence. Tampa Bay used a second-round pick on Spence in 2016 and are now moving on. The initial 53-man roster leaves the Packers with only four outside linebackers, leaving them a little short at the position. Spence was named Rookie of the Month in November 2016 after collecting 2.5 sacks. He battled injuries over the next two years but is immensely talented. A change of scenery could be just what Spence needs.
Devine Ozigbo, RB: Ozigbo had a fine career at Nebraska. He is a hard runner and still has enough speed to get to the edge. Ozigbo also has decent hands and can be used out of the backfield.
Malik Jefferson, LB: Jefferson was a third-round pick with for Cincinnati last season. He couldn’t find a home in the Bengals defense but could give the Packers what they are looking for. Jefferson was put on injured reserve during the 2018 season with a foot injury, but that should be behind him. Coming out of Texas, Jefferson had 4.5 40-yard dash speed and could be a a fit next to Blake Martinez.
Cardale Jones, QB: Jones could be considered a surprise cut from the Chargers. He actually played well during the preseason and could be an addition with Tim Boyle to mold for the future. This would require having three quarterbacks on the roster, but Jones has all the physical tools you could want in a quarterback.
Willie Henry, DT: If the Packers are looking for a little more depth along the defensive line, Henry could be a nice addition. He’s got good size and has made a few starts on a talented Ravens defense.
Jachai Polite, OLB: Going back to before the 2019 draft, Jachai Polite was player linked to the Packers in many mock drafts. Then he made mention of the Packers during his combine interview and created perception he wouldn’t work or would be a disruption.
His skills were still enough to be selected in the third round by the New York Jets. Polite couldn’t figure out special teams and didn’t do much when on the field. Maybe a humbling by getting cut out of training camp can give Polite the kick in the tail he needs to be the player he thinks he is.
