Packers: 18 players on injury report for Week 1 vs. Bears
It wouldn’t be a Green Bay Packers regular season game without a long injury report.
The Packers may have made a change at head coach this year but one thing remains the same, and that’s the injury report.
Ahead of the Packers’ season opener against the Chicago Bears on Thursday night, 18 players are listed on the injury report. The Bears only have two players on their injury report.
But there is some positive news. Of the 18 players on the injury report, 11 were full participants at practice on Monday. That’s a good sign that they’ll be available for the season opener.
Four players were limited at practice. Right tackle Bryan Bulaga is one of them, but it wasn’t due to injury. He was rested. Cornerbacks Kevin King and Ka’Dar Hollman, and tight end Jimmy Graham were limited.
The only players who didn’t participate at practice due to injury were linebacker Oren Burks, wide receiver Darrius Shepherd and tight end Jace Sternberger. Burks is the only starter of three and would’ve played a lot of snaps if he was healthy.
Assuming the players who participated in full will be ready to go on Thursday night, the Packers will be close to 100 percent in the season opener.
The Bears could be without a starter, tight end Trey Burton. Burton was limited at practice on Monday due to a groin injury. Offensive lineman Rashaad Coward didn’t practice due to an elbow injury.
The Packers will be hoping for good luck with injuries throughout the season. It’s not ideal that 18 players are on the injury report before the regular season has even started, but the good news is that many of those injuries don’t appear to be a concern. And with most of the players on the injury report practicing on Monday, the Packers should be relatively healthy against the Bears this week.
