Packers: Five players to watch vs. Bears in season opener
By Jesse Fry
4. Geronimo Allison
Over the last few years, Randall Cobb became known as a Bears killer. Cobb always seemed to come up big in games against Chicago and has broken Bears’ fans hearts on more than one occasion. He now plays for the Cowboys. So will there be another Bears killer on the roster?
One person could be Geronimo Allison. Allison came up big in last season’s opener, catching a bomb from Rodgers for the Packers’ first touchdown of the 2018 season. Allison didn’t stop there and had a solid game overall, catching five passes for 69 yards and a touchdown.
Davante Adams is a star and the Bears know it. I imagine they will do everything in their power to ensure Adams is taken out of the game. Double coverage, shadowing him with Kyle Fuller, whatever. Bears defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano and his crew will try to make sure Adams and Rodgers don’t beat him.
That should leave Allison (and Marquez Valdes-Scantling for that matter) with plenty of one-on-one opportunities. It will be up to them to take advantage.
With Cobb now gone, Allison will be the primary slot receiver. This is where the Packers were able to attack the Bears with Cobb, now it’s time to see if Allison can do the same.
