2. Offense still has work to do

Green Bay’s defense dominated, but the offense still has a lot to improve on.

In the end, the Packers did enough. One touchdown drive and a Mason Crosby field goal proved more than enough to secure the victory, but this group will need to play much better as the season goes on.

Let’s first put the performance into some perspective. First of all, the Bears defense looked in midseason form. They were at their dominant best for the majority of this game. Khalil Mack made an instant impact on the game, and Roy Robertson-Harris impressed with a sack and two quarterback hits.

Last season, Chicago’s defense allowed fewer points per game than any other team. Scoring in this game was never going to be easy, particularly on the road.

This was also the Packers’ first game in a new offense. Without any preseason snaps for Aaron Rodgers, it’s going to take a bit of time for everyone to adjust. This was a tough matchup to do so.

That said, outside of one excellent touchdown drive which took all of four plays, the Packers’ offense was up-and-down at best, and flat at its worst. Rodgers was sacked five times, the Packers averaged 2.1 yards per carry on the ground, and they only put up 10 points.

With games against Minnesota, Denver, and Philadelphia coming up next, there will be some more tough challenges for this offense. And they must play a lot better.
