Stock up: Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Marquez Valdes-Scantling has received a lot of praise throughout the offseason about his potential in Matt LaFleur’s offense. He’s been considered a breakout candidate by many, and for good reason.

And MVS made a good start to the season. In a game dominated by both defenses, Valdes-Scantling did find some success, leading the Packers in receiving yards, while tying with Davante Adams with four receptions, the most on the team.

Valdes-Scantling showed off his speed on a 47-yard catch that gave the Packers offense the spark it needed in the second quarter. It was a crucial play on the only touchdown drive of the evening for either team. MVS showed in this game that he can be a deep threat for the Packers.

Surprisingly, Geronimo Allison didn’t have a single target in the game. MVS had six. It’s only one game, but this could suggest Valdes-Scantling is the clear number two wide receiver in this offense and a go-to target for Rodgers along with Adams.

After an impressive summer, it was good to see Valdes-Scantling make key plays on the field in Week 1 in what was a difficult matchup. In a potential breakout season, this was an ideal start for the second-year wide receiver.
