Five Packers to watch in home opener vs. Vikings in Week 2
By Jesse Fry
4. Tony Brown
In somewhat of a surprise, Tony Brown started in place of Kevin King. King was healthy and dressed, but the team smartly decided to bring him along slowly so that his current hamstring injury doesn’t linger any longer. Brown played well though King was the one in there when the game was on the line in the fourth quarter.
King appeared on the injury list again to start practice Wednesday and no-one would blame them if they decided to take the same route again this week and start Brown.
One of the turning points in last year’s game was when King left with a hamstring injury. At the time, the Packers had a double-digit lead and looked to be well on their way to a win. But once he left, Cousins caught fire and put up 22 points in the fourth quarter to tie the game and send it into overtime.
If the Packers want to avoid the same scenario this time around, King, or whoever plays in his place, must play better. I anticipate that player will be Brown. Brown has been solid all summer long and that didn’t change in Week 1 against the Bears.
Regardless of injury, Brown will have an important role on this team and in the defense. Even if King starts and plays the whole game, Brown will still have his moment to shine.
