Packers fans should also support Chargers, Broncos in Week 2

The Chargers and Broncos can help the Packers in Week 2.

Even this early in the regular season, any advantage will help the Green Bay Packers when it comes to regaining the division crown. The Packers can only end Week 2 one game ahead in first place of the NFC North, but they can put some distance between themselves and the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions with some help from the AFC West.

Of course, the Packers only have one focus in mind — defeat the Minnesota Vikings. Doing so would put the Packers alone in first place at 2-0, with the Vikings no higher than second at 1-1.

But as fans, we can also keep one eye on two more games, both featuring NFC North vs. AFC West matchups.

Also kicking off at 12:00 p.m. CT, the Lions host the Los Angeles Chargers. Los Angeles might be without key starters Derwin James, Melvin Gordon and Hunter Henry, but they still have one of the league’s most talented rosters and will be expected to win at Ford Field.

A Chargers win would put the Lions 0-1-1 after two games, which wouldn’t be an ideal start for Matt Patricia’s team considering their next four games are against the Eagles, Chiefs, Packers and Vikings.

The Bears enter a potential slip-up game at Denver against their former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Up against a strong Broncos defense led by Fangio, Mitch Trubisky and the Bears’ offense will have to be much improved from Week 1. And that won’t be easy as Fangio knows Matt Nagy’s offense well.

If the Broncos win, the Bears would go 0-2 with games against the Vikings, Saints, Chargers, Eagles and Rams all coming up.

Yes, it’s very early. And the Packers need to win their own games. But if they do so, a little help from the Chargers and Broncos would give them an early advantage in the NFC North.
