Packers: Lane Taylor injury gives opportunity for Elgton Jenkins
Second-round pick Elgton Jenkins will get his first NFL start on Sunday against the Denver Broncos.
Offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins spent some time playing at guard in last week’s victory over the Minnesota Vikings, which seemed to show the Green Bay Packers were considering making a change at left guard.
Lane Taylor — who started the opening two games of the season at left guard — has been ruled out of Sunday’s game due to a biceps injury, meaning Jenkins will get the opportunity to start.
When Taylor returns from injury, it’s possible he’ll be the main backup at guard with Jenkins becoming the full-time starter. It’s an important game on Sunday for the rookie, and it won’t be easy against a talented Broncos defense.
The Packers also ruled out linebacker Oren Burks, who hasn’t played since the preseason opener. Defensive tackle Montravius Adams is listed as doubtful on the injury report due to a shoulder injury that has kept him out of practice all week.
Four players are questionable for Week 3: edge rusher Kyler Fackrell, tight end Jimmy Graham, and wide receivers Jake Kumerow and Darrius Shepherd.
While Graham is questionable, he did return to practice on Friday, and ESPN’s Rob Demovsky wrote that “it sounds like Graham will be available Sunday”, which is good news.
Defensive starters Kenny Clark, Za’Darius Smith and Darnell Savage Jr. are all ready to go in Week 3.
Three players have been ruled out for the Broncos: tackle Ja’Wuan James, fullback Andy Janovich and linebacker Joe Jones. Linebacker Todd Davis and former Chicago Bears cornerback Bryce Callahan are both questionable.
While the Packers aren’t dealing with too many long-term injuries, it looks like there could be a few game-time decisions ahead of Sunday’s game against the Broncos. It’ll be something to watch closely over the weekend.
