5. Jaire Alexander

The Packers have the next star at cornerback in Jaire Alexander. So far in 2019, Alexander has taken his side of the field and shut it down. Alexander has been stuck to the side of his receiver in the past three games and, although he still doesn’t have an interception, he’s creating plays.

In the third quarter, rookie tight end Noah Fant caught a pass in the flat. Alexander jumped all over his left arm, pulling the ball out from his grip in the process. The ball fell straight to Alexander and the Packers had another key turnover.

Alexander also had a beautiful deflection in the back of the end zone on a pass intended for Emmanuel Sanders. Alexander jumped high into the air, knocking the ball away from Sanders on what would have been a touchdown. Although Denver still went on to score, Alexander made sure it wasn’t on him.

Alexander also has a contagious swagger that is spreading throughout the secondary. For as young as he is, Alexander has a veteran presence and will not back down from any challenge.

The Packers defense has playmakers at each level. They have carried the team through the first three victories and put the Packers in a good spot as they close out the first quarter of their season on Thursday. The opponents are going to get better, starting with their matchup against the Eagles.

Maybe the short turnaround can give the offense the kickstart they need. I know the defense will come ready.
