Packers: Davante Adams’ injury not serious, per report
The Green Bay Packers shouldn’t be without Davante Adams for too long.
It was the worst-case scenario for the Green Bay Packers when their star wide receiver left the field late in the game due to a toe injury. The Packers needed Davante Adams late in the game, and they failed to score in the red zone without him.
But Adams — who had caught 10 passes for 180 yards before getting hurt — might not be out for long. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Adams’ injury is “not believed to be serious”. There isn’t a timetable for his return just yet, but this is encouraging news.
Rapoport added that the Packers will be careful with the injury, as they should. Hopefully, he won’t miss any time at all. Playing on a Thursday night does come with the benefit of the added time to rest before the next game.
But if Adams isn’t ready for that game, hopefully he’ll be able to return for an important NFC North showdown with the currently-undefeated Detroit Lions.
In his absence, if he is out, the Packers will need their young pass catchers to step up. That means second-year Marquez Valdes-Scantling could become the number one pass catcher, and Geronimo Allison would also need to play an important role.
Wide receiver was considered one of the Packers’ deepest positions in the summer. But since then, they lost Equanimeous St. Brown for the season and traded away Trevor Davis. Adams and Jake Kumerow are both dealing with injuries.
That leaves MVS, Allison, Darrius Shepherd and Allen Lazard as the top options at receiver. Of course, the Packers also have tight ends Jimmy Graham, Marcedes Lewis and Robert Tonyan. Green Bay may need to lean on their tight ends in the passing game if Adams is out for a couple of weeks.
Any injury to player as important to Adams is never good. But the Packers will be relieved it doesn’t appear to be a serious injury.
