Darnell Savage

The Packers had high hopes for Darnell Savage Jr. when they selected him in the first round of the draft back in the spring. Not just for the future, but in his rookie season. And it’s easy to see why. Savage is a future star and has already made some great plays in the secondary this year.

Sure, he’s made some mistakes. Just as Jaire Alexander did in his rookie season. But Savage has also shown just how talented he is. He has defended three passes in 2019, third-most on the team behind Alexander and Kevin King. With 17 tackles, he’s tied with King and Kenny Clark for third-most on the team.

And Savage also showed his ability to make game-changing plays in the win against the Broncos in Week 3 when he made a diving interception, the first of his NFL career.

To have made the impact he has in just four games is impressive, and exciting to see what he’ll be able to do a year from now.

Savage has been one of the standout performers in the Packers’ defense this year, and he has to be among the candidates to win Defensive Rookie of the Year based on the first quarter of the season.
