With Davante Adams likely out in Week 5, the Green Bay Packers need Geronimo Allison to step up.

Geronimo Allison has made a number of key plays throughout his career, and the Packers might need him to make a couple more on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that it’s unlikely Davante Adams will play in Week 5, which will lead to a bigger role for Allison and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

In reality, the Packers will need all of their pass catchers to step up. That includes Jimmy Graham, who caught six of nine targets for 61 yards and a touchdown last week. Valdes-Scantling, too, will need to contribute.

But Allison has the most experience of any receiver playing with Aaron Rodgers. The Rodgers-to-Allison connection has been an important one in recent years, and the Packers missed him when he got injured last season.

Despite making a slow start to 2019, Allison has caught a touchdown in two out of the past three games, and he had his best game of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4.

Once again, it was Allison who made a crucial play at a key moment. With just 26 seconds remaining in the second quarter, the Packers trailed the Eagles by eight points. And on third-and-six from midfield, Allison made a spectacular catch to give the Packers a first down on the Eagles’ 20-yard line. It kept the drive alive.

Two plays later, Rodgers found Allison again in the end zone. The Eagles’ lead was cut to just a point.

Sunday’s matchup with the Cowboys won’t be an easy one for Rodgers and Green Bay’s passing offense. Dallas is ranked 10th against the pass, allowing 241.5 yards through the air per game. However, it’s worth noting the four quarterbacks they’ve faced this season: Eli Manning, Case Keenum, Josh Rosen and Teddy Bridgewater.

The Cowboys haven’t played against a quarterback on Rodgers’ level yet. But the two-time MVP will need his receivers to step up if Adams isn’t available.

Allison has his trust and plenty of experience playing with Rodgers. Now he’ll need to step up with Adams potentially out on Sunday.
