Packers have fixed problems on the road to become NFC contenders
The Green Bay Packers have already won more road games this season than they did in all of 2018, which highlights how far this team has come.
The Green Bay Packers have set down a marker in the NFC. They’ve won four of their five games, two against division rivals and one against a contender within the conference.
Notably, they are also 2-0 on the road. The Packers’ struggles away from Lambeau Field last season got embarrassing. They lost their opening seven games on the road, before finally winning one at the New York Jets once their playoff hopes were already long gone.
Lambeau Field will always be a tough place for opponents to visit. But how well the Packers travel will determine how far this team can go. To be one of the best teams in the NFL, you need to be able to win anywhere. In tough conditions, in loud stadiums and when everything is against you.
The Packers have faced two daunting road challenges so far this season — at Chicago and Dallas — and they’ve passed both.
A lot has changed since last year. The improved pass rush and secondary lead the way. But the Packers’ ability they’ve shown so far to go on the road in tough environments against very good football teams, and win, is impressive.
The Packers still have a lot of work to do. Their next road game is as tough as it gets at Kansas City in three weeks. Before then, they’ll return home for games against Detroit and Oakland. But, so far, they’ve passed almost every challenge in front of them.
This team will be expected to win the majority of its games at home, but they will face a long run of road games around midseason, and that’s never easy.
But to already have two wins away from Lambeau, and a 4-1 record after five weeks, puts them in a strong position to build from. And with their win on Sunday against the Cowboys, the Packers proved why they are contenders in the NFC.
