Three takeaways from Packers’ win vs. Lions in Week 6
3. Packers should trade for a wide receiver
Despite Allen Lazard‘s heroics late in the game and Marquez Valdes-Scantling‘s incredible catch, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst should seriously consider looking for help at wide receiver.
The offense couldn’t get into any kind of rhythm early on. Geronimo Allison struggled with a couple of drops, MVS only had two catches on the night and Jake Kumerow failed to make much of an impact outside of a first-down catch.
Lazard deserves more snaps after his incredible fourth-quarter performance, and MVS is a big-play threat in this offense. But even when Davante Adams returns from injury, the Packers’ offense could benefit from adding an experienced receiver to give them another option.
Gutekunst should pick up the phone and see which players might be available.
Would the 2-4 Broncos be willing to trade away Emmanuel Sanders? Sanders is 32 and soon to be a free agent. He’s been playing some great football this season and would be an excellent addition to the Packers’ offense.
The Falcons are in trouble at 1-5, four games out of the NFC South lead. With Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley on their roster, would they be open to trading Mohamed Sanu? Maybe not, but Gutekunst should find out.
DeVante Parker? A.J. Green? There are a number of talented receivers out there who could help this offense, and it’s possible a team would be willing to make a trade.
The Packers have young talent at receiver, but they could do with a veteran who can help bring more consistency in the short term. Even when Adams returns.
