Packers stock up, stock down Week 7: Allen Lazard delivers
Stock up: Allen Lazard
Just when the Green Bay Packers desperately needed someone to step up on offense, Allen Lazard did. Aaron Rodgers had been making accurate throws all evening, but wasn’t helped by his receiving corps, who offered little separation. And when Rodgers did find them, too often the ball was dropped. According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, head coach Matt LaFleur counted six drops in the game.
But Lazard — a star in the preseason — was given his opportunity and made it count. Lazard caught four passes in total for 65 yards, both team-highs, while also bringing in a spectacular 35-yard touchdown grab.
Without him, the Packers might not have been able to make the comeback and win the game. That’s just how important he was late in the game with no Davante Adams or Geronimo Allison on the field.
There will be a lot of talk about whether the Packers should bring in a wide receiver via a trade, which I believe they should, but that doesn’t mean Lazard can’t be part of the solution. With this performance, he absolutely deserves more snaps. Lazard clearly has a connection with Rodgers, and after his incredible performance on Monday night, he deserves more opportunities, starting on Sunday against the Raiders.
