5. Preston/Za’Darius Smith

There hasn’t been enough to compliment the impact Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith have had on the team, let alone the defense. And they are getting sacks at critical moments of games for the Packers.

GM Brian Gutekunst has proven he’s not afraid to go out and spend money on a weakness. He has since turned a spot lacking production into a strength with players who can hold their own and also be leaders on a team desperate for them.

Their decision to do interviews together has shown a bond between two players you don’t often see. But these two guys have built a camaraderie that hasn’t been seen in Green Bay in a long time.

Speaking of, I’m curious to see how Gutekunst builds this roster going forward.

With Davante Adams’ toe injury and the product defensive coordinator Mike Pettine has on the field, it might be a good idea for “Gutey” to go get some help on offense. There are players available, so it will be up to the GM to decide who’s worth getting and at what price.

What I would hate to see happen is taking a page out of the Ted Thompson book, replacing player after player with undrafted free agents. Rodgers is one of the best in the game, but even he would have a hard time building a Hall-of-Fame resume with this group.
