Packers: Chiefs not ruling out Patrick Mahomes for Week 8
It seems unlikely the Green Bay Packers will be playing against Patrick Mahomes in Week 8, although Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid won’t rule it out.
Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a dislocated kneecap last week, but Chiefs head coach Andy Reid hasn’t ruled out the league MVP for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers.
According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Reid said that Mahomes will be at practice on Wednesday. That alone is quite incredible, even if he’s limited. As Demovsky noted, Reid added that “we’ll see how he does”, when talking about Mahomes’ status for Sunday’s game.
Despite that, it’s still hard to imagine Mahomes will be ready to play this week, just 10 days after going down with a serious knee injury. It’s likely Reid won’t reveal any injury information until the team has to, starting with the first injury report of the week on Wednesday.
It’s hard to believe that the Chiefs would put their superstar player in risk of further injury by playing him so soon, even if he feels like he’s ready to go. The Chiefs currently have a comfortable lead in the AFC West and are on track for a playoff berth, even if Mahomes has to miss a few games.
Even if he does play, Mahomes almost certainly won’t be at 100 percent. Although Mahomes on one leg is still probably one of the best quarterbacks in football.
And after some of the incredible plays Mahomes has made over the past year or so, would it really be a big surprise if he played and threw four touchdown passes? He’s that good.
Time will tell. For now, it seems unlikely Mahomes will be available for the game against the Packers this week.
If I had one bit of advice for Reid and the Chiefs, it’d be to give Mahomes an extra week off and let him return next week. Save those touchdown passes for the Vikings in Week 9.
