Packers: Takeaways from injury report with Davante Adams doubtful
With Patrick Mahomes out and Davante Adams doubtful, here are three quick thoughts on the injury report ahead of the Green Bay Packers’ Week 8 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Both the Packers and Chiefs will likely be without a star on offense. Davante Adams for the Packers and Patrick Mahomes for the Chiefs.
The final injury report has Adams listed as doubtful to play on Sunday, while Mahomes has been ruled out.
Here are three quick takeaways:
Davante Adams doubtful, but there’s still a chance he could play
First of all, it’s not a guarantee that Adams won’t be out there on Sunday. Head coach Matt LaFleur said earlier in the week that it could be a game-time decision, although now that he’s doubtful, they don’t expect him to play.
However, the Packers have had two players listed as doubtful end up playing this season. Kevin King was doubtful to play against the Cowboys, but that was changed to questionable on the Saturday prior to the game. He was active and made a key interception.
Last week, Geronimo Allison was listed as doubtful to play against the Raiders. Like King, he was upgraded to questionable during the weekend and then played.
This feels a little different as Adams has been out a few weeks, and with it being a significant injury, the Packers won’t want to rush him back. As he’s doubtful, the Packers don’t expect him to be available, but with 48 hours to go, things could change.
Saturday will be the key day. If his status is upgraded to questionable as we saw with King and Allison, there could be a chance.
Overall, the Packers are close to full strength
Even if Adams isn’t able to play, the Packers are much healthier than they’ve been in recent weeks. Nobody has been ruled out yet, although Adams and tight end Robert Tonyan are doubtful to play.
Darnell Savage‘s status is uncertain. He practiced fully on Wednesday but was limited Thursday and Friday and is questionable to play. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he plays but is limited on Sunday.
Center Corey Linsley is also questionable due to a back injury, but the good news is that he returned to practice on Friday.
Nine players on the injury report were full participants at practice and 14 are no longer listed on the injury report. The Packers appear to be getting healthier ahead of an important stretch of games.
The Chiefs are without key starters
The same can’t be said about the Chiefs. They will, of course, be without their MVP quarterback on Sunday night, meaning Matt Moore will make his first start of the season.
But it’s not just Mahomes that they’ll miss. Defensive end Frank Clark, defensive tackle Chris Jones, cornerback Kendall Fuller, tackle Eric Fisher and guard Andrew Wylie have also been ruled out. Linebacker Darron Lee is questionable.
The Chiefs will be without key starters on both sides of the ball, although they will get wide receiver Sammy Watkins back from a hamstring injury.
