5. Smith Bros. combined for five sacks vs. Broncos

Not only did Jaire Alexander make a key defensive play against the Broncos, but the Smith Bros. also had a big game. Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith have both been so important to the success of this team in 2019 and they had one of their best games of the season against Denver in Week 3.

The Smiths combined for five sacks — Preston had three and Za’Darius had two. They also had three quarterback hits each.

It was a long afternoon for Joe Flacco, who went without a touchdown pass, threw an interception and was also sacked six times. Green Bay’s defense generated consistent pressure on the quarterback, and most of it came from the Smiths.

After nine games, Za’Darius Smith has 8.5 sacks, tied for fourth-most in the NFL. Preston Smith has eight sacks, which is tied for seventh in the league. A lot of money is spent by NFL teams in free agency, but the Smiths have shown why the Packers were willing to give them both big contracts back in March.

Halfway through the season, both Smiths have made a huge impact on this defense. Combining for five sacks in a victory over the Broncos might be their most impressive game so far.
