3. Mason Crosby’s walk-off field goal vs. Lions

The Packers were nowhere near their best for most of the game against Detroit in Week 6. The Lions, coming off their bye week, made an instant impact with a 66-yard pass from Matthew Stafford to Kenny Golladay.

The defense was being beaten deep and the offense made too many mistakes, including a fumble by Aaron Jones. Early in the second quarter, Matt Prater kicked a field goal to give the Lions a surprising 13-0 lead at Lambeau.

But as the Packers often do, they fought back in the second half to make a game of it. With just under seven minutes left, down by two points, they got the ball back at their own 18-yard line. Aaron Rodgers led a masterclass of a drive to keep the chains moving while also taking time off the clock.

The Packers slowly marched down the field before draining the clock all the way down to just two seconds with the football at the Lions’ five-yard line. On came Mason Crosby, who converted a 23-yard field goal to give the Packers the lead, and the victory, as time expired.

Good teams win when they’re playing well. Great teams win when they’re not.

The Packers were far from their best in Week 6. They didn’t lead at any point until time expired. But Crosby’s walk-off field goal gave the Packers a crucial division victory, their third of the season. And this victory showed great character and belief we rarely saw from this team in 2018.
