5. Tight end

As things stand in early November, the Packers could once again be looking to upgrade the tight end position. Jimmy Graham and Marcedes Lewis could be on their way out in the spring, leaving Jace Sternberger and Robert Tonyan on the roster, although Tonyan is an exclusive rights free agent. Graham hasn’t played well this season and he’s often unable to break a tackle. Lewis is a free agent in the spring.

Sternberger has the chance to prove himself in the second half of the season, and if he plays well, tight end won’t be among the Packers’ biggest needs any longer. If Sternberger shows promise in the final seven games, Green Bay may only be in the market for depth at the position. But if Sternberger fails to make an impact, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Brian Gutekunst uses an early-round selection at the position.

Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper are among the potential free agents at tight end, so the Packers may decide to sign a veteran rather than drafting a rookie. But in the case that these players re-sign with their current teams, which should be considered likely, Gutekunst may look to add another young tight end to the mix in the draft.
