4. Darnell Savage

Darnell Savage started the season out as hot as any rookie. He was all over the field and seemed to be just a step away from a turnover play in each of his first four games. Then Savage injured his ankle in Week 5 against the Cowboys and missed the next two games, slowing his development just a bit.

Savage hasn’t looked quite the same since his return versus Kansas City. It’s possible he wasn’t back at full strength before returning to the lineup.

With the extra week to heal, Savage should be back to full strength. With the speed the 49ers have on offense, the Packers are going to need him to be. Savage’s speed doesn’t just help in the pass game where he will be the deepest defender and help defend against the 49ers’ deep speed, he also has the capability to crash down against the run from his deep safety spot to limit the large gains on the ground.

Savage only has one interception in 2019 but has been close to many others. Garoppolo is known to put some up. I expect he’ll give Savage a chance for at least one. If he does and the Packers can capitalize, it would go a long way in helping the team beat the number one team in the NFC.
