In this week’s NFL Spin Zone 2020 mock draft, the Green Bay Packers select linebacker Kenneth Murray.

It’s fair to assume that once draft season gets underway a few months from now, we’ll be talking about the inside linebacker and wide receiver prospects a lot. This season, it’s clear these are two positions the Green Bay Packers will need to address either via free agency or the draft next spring.

Fast forward to the 2020 NFL Draft. The Packers will likely be picking near the bottom of the first round, and there they could decide to address one of those two needs.

In his most recent mock draft for 2020, Cody Williams of NFL Spin Zone predicts the Packers will strengthen the defense by selecting linebacker Kenneth Murray out of Oklahoma. Williams wrote:

"“Green Bay would be getting a tackling machine that can move all over the field with great purpose and speed that makes him a force they need on the second level.”"

Murray is one of the best linebackers in the draft class.

Luke Easterling of Draft Wire recently put out his draft rankings with the top 100 overall prospects. Murray comes in at No. 21 in his rankings. It’s worth noting that in this mock draft, the Packers had the 29th overall pick based on their current record.

This season for Oklahoma, Murray has 70 tackles, three passes defended and 2.5 sacks, according to ESPN.

One thing that GM Brian Gutekunst has done a nice job of so far is addressing the team’s top needs each offseason. With a need at cornerback, Gutekunst drafted a future star in Jaire Alexander. When the Packers needed to improve the pass rush, he signed Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith, then drafted Rashan Gary in the first round. He did the same at safety this past offseason, adding two new starters in Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage.

Now with the Packers needing to get better at inside linebacker and wide receiver, don’t be surprised if Gutekunst uses early draft picks to improve each position.

Selecting Murray in the first round could be the perfect start to the draft next spring.
