Packers: Wins for Seahawks, Saints adds importance to 49ers game
Wins for the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks adds pressure on the Green Bay Packers.
Green Bay Packers fans were hoping for some help in the NFC playoff race on Sunday afternoon, but they didn’t receive any. Both the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks won in Week 12, adding pressure on the Packers to do the same later tonight.
The Saints won a close one against the Carolina Panthers with a walk-off field goal. The Panthers had a great chance to win the game after an 11-play drive late in the fourth quarter. Yet after having first-and-goal from the New Orleans’ 3-yard line with little over two minutes remaining, they failed to find the end zone and ended up missing the field goal.
The Saints went 65 yards on 11 plays, finishing with a game-winning kick.
New Orleans moves to 9-2 and ahead of Green Bay, at least for now. A Packers victory over the San Francisco 49ers would change that.
The Seahawks were comfortable in their win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles didn’t seem to turn up for the game, turning the ball over five times. It’s hard to win many football games when that happens.
The Seahawks also move to 9-2. If the Packers win tonight, they will move into first place in the NFC, but they won’t control their destiny. If both teams win out, it’d be Seattle that finishes in first place of the conference.
Getting some help in the NFC race would’ve been nice, but the Packers only need to focus on their own performance. Tonight’s game is a big one. Come away with a win and they’ll have a very good chance of earning one of the top two seeds. Lose, and they’ll be two games behind the 49ers and have lost the head-to-head tiebreaker.
It’s a tough game, but a winnable one. And it should be a great contest at Levi’s Stadium.
